The Amish-made series of Box Newel Posts are available in plain, fluted, raised panel and recessed panels. All corners of the hollow box newels have lock miters resulting in no edge grains. Panels are available in CNC routed panels or actual panels. Actual raised panel box newels are an example of frame and panel construction, a method developed hundreds of years ago to combat the effects of moisture on solid wood used in cabinetry and furniture making. In a frame and panel construction, a large panel is fitted into a groove in the interior edge of a more dimensionally stable frame made of narrow strips of wood, with hard forty-five degree mitered corners. CNC panels have rounded corners. Box newels are available as half newels for handrail terminations at the wall.
